A nostril piercing is placed relative to the natural crease of your nose, not at a fixed height, which is why two people with the same jewelry can look completely different. We mark it, hand you a mirror, and adjust until it sits where you want it. Getting that right takes two minutes and determines how the piercing looks for the rest of your life.

Placement is a conversation

Standard nostril placement sits just above the crease where the nostril meets the cheek. Higher placements are increasingly popular and look excellent on some noses and odd on others. We'll mark two or three options and let you look at all of them before anything happens. Bring reference photos of the look you're after — it makes the conversation much faster.

Stud first, hoop later

We start you in a flat-back labret or an L-bend stud. A hoop in a fresh nostril moves constantly, drags bacteria through the channel and is the leading cause of the irritation bumps that people spend months fighting. Give it three to four months in a stud, then come in and we'll fit you into a properly sized hoop.

The bump nearly everyone gets

A small bump beside a healing nostril piercing is extremely common and is almost always irritation, not infection. Usual causes: switching to a hoop too early, sleeping face-down, snagging it with a towel, or aggressive cleaning. Sterile saline twice a day and nothing else. Don't use tea tree oil, alcohol, or the aspirin paste the internet recommends — those make it worse. Bring it in and we'll diagnose it for free.

How long before I can wear a nose hoop?

Three to four months minimum, and longer is better. A hoop in a fresh piercing moves with every breath and expression, which keeps the channel irritated and causes most nostril bumps. Come in when you're ready and we'll fit the right diameter for your nose.

How do I get rid of a nose piercing bump?

Identify what's irritating it and remove that cause — usually a hoop that went in too early, sleeping on it, or over-cleaning. Then sterile saline twice daily and leave it completely alone. Skip tea tree oil, alcohol and aspirin paste; all three commonly make it worse. If it hasn't improved in a few weeks, bring it in.
