Touch-Ups & Color Restoration

Bring faded work back — line repair, color refresh and restoration on tattoos of any age.

Tattoos age. Sun, time and skin turnover soften lines and dull color, and a piece that was sharp in 2004 can look tired now without being anything close to a candidate for a cover-up. Restoration puts the contrast back — often in a single session, and often for a fraction of what the original cost.

What restoration can and can't fix

Faded color, softened linework and lost contrast all respond extremely well to a refresh. What we can't do is un-blur a design whose lines have spread into each other, or rescue a piece where the original spacing was wrong to begin with. In those cases we'll talk about a partial redraw or a rework instead — and we'll be direct about which one you're looking at.

Restoring somebody else's work

We touch up work from other shops all the time and there's no ego about it. Bring in whatever you've got. Occasionally an artist has a strong preference that their own work not be altered by someone else, and if we recognize a piece as theirs and they're still working locally, we'll say so — but for the overwhelming majority of restoration, we just get on with it.

Our own touch-up policy

If a tattoo we did needs a touch-up as it heals, that's on us — the first touch-up within the first year is free, provided the aftercare instructions were followed. Hands, fingers, feet and other high-wear placements are the standard exception, since those need periodic maintenance regardless of how well they were executed.

How old is too old to restore a tattoo?

Age isn't the limit — condition is. We've refreshed work from the seventies that came back beautifully, and we've seen five-year-old tattoos too blurred to save. Bring it in and we'll give you a straight answer in a couple of minutes.

Is a touch-up cheaper than a new tattoo?

Almost always, yes. There's no design time and far less chair time, since the composition already exists. Most refreshes are billed as a short session rather than at a full piece rate.
